My mission statement~

I intend on "trying" to live a life that is about: not putting in my mouth things that are bad for me or have come from an animal that was treated cruely while alive on this earth and during slaughter, creating lasting fond memories for my children and grandchildren, adventure, challenging myself, respect others regardless of species, race, color or creed, taking risks, having fun, being grateful, respecting myself & my body, being authentically myself, taking responsibility for my actions, being proactive, being a problem solver, taking action, introspection, transition, change, honesty, growth, loving & helping others, having integrity, doing my best, being easy on myself, enjoying this world, becoming well read, seeing the wonder of it all and never allowing fear to hold me back!

Poor, poor pityful me................

I am having a major pity party this morning, before you go lecturing me about "being grateful" I know all about it and deep down of course I am to............be alive and have a house and all that stuff. I just need a little pity party time to mourn and process it.
We had a terrible Ice Storm last night. Macomb, Il., where I live, was hit the hardest in the area. I literally did not sleep last night for trees popping (mine) and explosive power polls breaking down. I kept losing power until 3 am it was out for good and is still out.

I am sad because combined with the tree's I lost this last Spring, (See one tree down HERE) I have now lost ALL my tree's with this storm. I planted every single tree. When I bought this property it didn't have a plant or tree on the place. I planted all of these and nurtured and groomed and loved them to maturity. The biggest one I lost this last Spring was 10 years old, the rest are anywhere from 5 to 8 years old;(

The pictures below are not actually of my trees. I am at work and I have not electricity or Internet at home to download my pics, but I will later. The pics below though look a lot like mine;(

Were you hit with any storms last night?

To add to my pity party my homeowners insurance doesn't cover any of the removal or replanting and with no man around I have to figure out how to get rid of this mess. I live paycheck to paycheck as a single person and it's Christmas time so I have spent every penny on that, so no extra to cover MAJOR and multiple tree removal by professionals!

Yippee and howdoyoudo!
Oh well it will all work out!
Carry on! Right?!
Peace!

Oh no! So sorry! You go right ahead and have that pity party. I would, too! I hate seeing trees damaged or killed for any reason.

When we lived in Rock Hill, South Carolina (a small town that actually won awards as tree capital of the country, by the way) we had one terrible ice storm that took out every last one of the Bradford Pear Trees on our street. Just about every house on our block had a fully mature Pear tree, and when they cracked at night, it sounded like their was a gun fight on our street. In the morning the devastation was terrible. All the trees cracked in the middle and then every single branch spread out flat onto the ground...sort of like a fan.

The worst was when Spring came, when our street was a mass of poufy 'popcorn' tree due to all those gorgeous white blooms. :(

Hang in there. I'm so sorry.
Maybe you could post an ad in your church for some help? How about:

"Single woman will provide a delicious hot dinner with scrumptious dessert to any helpful, strong men with a chainsaw and the ability to clean up her storm damaged trees"

Hey, it's worth a try. :)

WHAT a bummer!!! Do you have some good neighbors with Chainsaws that can help?? I know thats how we do it here in CO. When we get hit with a huge snowstorm and the trees break, we all help each other dig out then help each other clean up!

I am so sorry... I am glad you have a warm place to go... even if it is work. Hope the power is up and running soon and I am so sorry about your trees, I would feel the same way too!

Heidi,

I know just how you feel. Not sure if you've seen my latest post but we too had a major ice storm in NH last Thursday night. Believe it or not there are still thousands without power today, including my next door neighbor! The Electric Co's aren't sure when they will be able to fix everything.

Hopefully a kind neighbor will offer to help with your tree's. It's amazing how people can come together during a crisis. My best to you during the recovery.

Oh no! I am so sorry about this. I can't imagine. I know my parents have had to have trees cut down before and it is always expensive. Sometimes I wonder how anybody makes it. It seems like every time you turn around there is something to pay for.... I will pray for you today!

Heidi, I was just thinking about you as I read the story of the storm on the internet. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with such a mess! (((HUGS))) to you. I do hope your power comes back on soon and you are able to figure out what to do with the trees.....I feel so bad that you lost all of them...=(

We had a wind storm here last night that was just terrible and we woke up to more snow this morning. I drove to work on icy, slick roads. We have about 6 inches of new snow here at the office....we didn't get that much at the farm and I'm thankful as our gravel road is going to be a mess as it is!!

Stay warm and safe my friend.....

I have an idea. How about if you cook a big pot of stew and some cornbread and go out and offer to feed those hungry professionals. Then when they get a belly full, tell them your pityfull-me story and bat an eyelash or two and stand back as the roar of the chainsaws buzz around you!

Maybe someone will cut it up for firewood. They get the wood, you get the clean up.
Also there are many people around in the country that may share trees with you.
Check out my contest...if you win, you may get a tree from me.

That's rough. We've never had an ice storm down a tree but we have had several fall and block our road--always interesting. I am sorry for your sadness--snow should be happy and fluffy--not cold and destructive!

I am sorry about your trees Heidi. That is yucky. I know how much trees mean to me... so I imagine they mean even more to you since you planted them! Prayers for you... and I am glad they didn't hit your house.

I sooo know how you feel! We lost both of our mature trees (our only 2). We tried to revive them, but they died and we had to remove one last year and one this year. Now, we have NO mature trees in our backyard. I miss the SHADE!
