TGIF! And my fav childrens books & Disney movies.....

Middle School books that meant something to me:
The Boxcar Children
Being abandoned by both of my parents, ( just a fact, not meant for emotional tugging;) I was extremely fascinated with this book. It has stuck with me all these years. Whenever life gets tough or scary I always get this deep down feeling that I can make it no matter what. I was in awe of these children. Not just the survival mode they were in, but the fun and adventures they had along the way. Anyone read this one?

Where the Red Fern Grows
Of course being a very sensitive person. This book struck my heart hard, as it did to many. I most loved the sense of adventure, following your dreams and the love he had for his dogs! How did this book effect you?

The Hobbit

This book just fascinated me. I was most drawn to the woods. They were mysterious! Did you read this one?

These are some of my all time favorite Disney movies. That means that the first time I watched them something hit me HARD inside!

These are just a few of my favorite children's book's that I own, love and read over and over again to my children. I collect children's books. I was an El Ed major at one time (till I switched my major) and have taught in educationally based preschools. I read to my daughters from the day they were born and taught both of them to read through phonics. Not the "hooked on phonics", just me:) What are your favorite books you read to your children?

The Big Hungry Bear is Beautifully illistrated. I read this over and over. It was from Discovery Toys, which I sold at one time.

Classic and fun to show the outside world to young children.

Anything with a mom theme;)

Repeat;)

I am obsessed with any Beranstain Bear book. Have and read them all. This was one of our all time favorites. I would read the books with great theatrics;) I love them so much because of: the family theme, the illustrations and lessons about life;) Try them if you've never read them;)

This is so fun to read, especially when you are feeling especially fun & silly!

Stunning illistrations and story line!

What books and Disney movies are your favorites? I'd love to know;)
I read to Cooper now, and look forward to many years of sharing my favorites with him;)
Happy Friday;)

Oh the memories come flooding back with some of those books and movies...I see you had the Polar express on you list.

You know almost 20 years ago it was close to Christmas and doctor at the hospital heard a couple of us nurses chatting about children christmas stories when he told me about the Polar Express...it sounded so magical....I went and bought it that week. On Christmas Eve that year we were having dinner at my in-laws and my mom was with us....she sat my girls down on the couch and read them the Polar Express. Since then every Christmas Eve the last thing to do before the girls go to bed is to sit down and read the Polar Express.....I hope that tradition never ends or at least I hope they have such a tradition when they have children of their own.....great post!

Great post! I really don't think that I read most of the books on your list. Funny for someone that admits to being a little "worried" about the darkness in the country" I am totally into mysteries. Even as a child. Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew.
I am so glad that I finally managed to get to your blog. I don't know what happened but sometime I could, and other times it just doesn't work. Well I am putting on my blog roll right now, and then it's much easier for me to get to.
Looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Oh my goodness Heidi... Where do I start! I love children's books too and just like smalltown rn, I have been reading or listening to (tape) the Polar Express since my oldest (now 20) was very young! We are planning to take the Polar Express ride on the Great Smokey Mountain Rail Road this December! I am so looking forward to it. But yes, I love the illustrations.
One of my altime favorites you have is the Mouse and the Strawberry one! I love that book. We wore it out after four kids... I want to get another one and frame some of the pictures... I just love them!
My boys have read the boxcar children, and most of the ones you listed... but a few we still haven't gotten to yet!
My favorites as a little girl were Misty of Chincoteaque series and probably the Little House on the Prairie series.
The movie thing is different for me. I didn't get to see many movies in my childhood, and that is ok by me... just hard to relate to some talk of them now. I am trying to get the boys to see a lot more than I did. We haven't seen some of those and will have to try them... have you ever seen Simon Birch or Second Hand Lion. Those are two of my favorites!
Great post Heidi!

It has to be 30 years since I read the Boxcar Children. All I remember is they were on the run and survived by eating vegetable soup made with water and lots of potatoes. I cant believe I remember this book from so long ago. Ran upon your blog by chance, thanks for the memories.

I didn't have anyone read to me when I was a child, but I read to my own children constantly, plus I used to be a teacher. I have a special place in my heart for A.A. Milne - The World of Pooh. I also love Rosemary Wells and her little characters like Max.

I LOVED THE BOXCAR CHILDREN!! I swear those were the coolest books on the planet. And whats funny is they were written a loooong time ago. But they even hold their own today. I remember making my kids read them when they were little. I got an "aww mooooom do we have to" ...but boy they sure loved them and wanted the next in the series! I remember reading "where the red fern grows" in 5th grade and just crying like a baby when the dog dies. Thanks for bringing back memories of great stories!

Thank you everyone for all the comments;) Still being so new to this blogging thing, "it means a lot, a whole lot" (that is a line in some movie and I can visualize it but can't remember what movie it is. Very typical for me;)

Anyhouser, "Thank you" from the bottom of my heart;) Peace!

I wrote a post about my favorite books here:
http://minnesotamom.wordpress.com/2008/07/10/between-one-page-and-another/

Some of them were in yours, too.

And my all-time favorite Disney movie is Aristocats!

I wonder if the Boxcar children is the same as The Railway Children? (but Boxcar could be an Americanism). The Railway Children is a wonderful book - and film, too!

Anything by Roald Dahl is great - so are the films.

And Dumbo - now that is a classic, poignant Disney film that I highly recommend.

Charlotte's Web is a good book, and I can also recommend The Secret Garden.

There is something about good books that you read as a child that stay with you forever.

Enjoy your new stylin' hair do!

Thank you for commenting.

Railway children is a different book then Boxcar children. Both are good, but very differnt.

I can't watch Dumbo. The whole child being taken away from the mother is FAR, FAR too much for me to handle;)

I love charolette's web and secret garden;)
